Dear Susan,

We wanted to write, on behalf of the Bonanza fandom, to thank you for the outstanding job you did on your tribute to Pernell. Everyone on the various Bonanza lists have been sharing their thoughts about your tribute, and without a doubt, everyone was more than pleased. We were stunned and honored that you chose to read our email (penned with a lot of input from many fellow Bonanza fans), and so touched that, after your wonderful presentation, you chose to end the program with our thoughts. Thank you, so much. It was especially wonderful because it was not only a tribute to Pernell, but fittingly, paid homage to Lorne, Dan, and Michael. All four of our Bonanza guys were honored in your tribute, and we could not have been more pleased!

How lucky you and Kent were to both have known all four of these amazing men. And how lucky those four men were to have known you, and also, to have you here to share in the love they left behind (for other hearts to feel).

You and Kent are always a dear part of our Bonanza family, and once again, Susan, from the bottom of our hearts, you have our deepest gratitude.

Some more good news, I just bought me a ticket over the net for you and your brother Ray´s concert at the Stables in England in May. So now I will have to find out how to get there and do other preparations such as flights and overnight stays. So see you in May, Jan!

Another VERY enjoyable person to interview would be Ralna English - I think your listeners would thoroughly love her. I've seen and visited with both Guy & Ralna after 2 of their concerts this past year, and they are wonderful people. Ralna is as sweet & beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside, so would love to hear Susan interview her!

Your interview with Guy Hovis was great. It was a very entertaining half hour. Thank you so much for having him. I live in Granite City, Illinois and have never listened to one of your shows but I heard he was going to be on and I had to hear it. I have been a fan of Guy and Ralna from the first appearance on the Lawrence Welk show. I have had the pleasure of meeting them many, many times and have every record and CD either of them have put out. They just don't record fast enough.

I just recently discovered you from the Welknotes website. Well, what a treat I just had listening to the interviews with Guy Hovis and Bob Ralston. You are good, very good. Your love for good music of the past (music with a melody) shines through. I plan on listening to all your archived interviews. I’ve heard you might schedule something with Ralna English. I hope so let us know.

Again, thank you. I’m off to see a local production of the King and I with my 10 year old granddaughter. This will be her first theater production. Hopefully she’ll be “getting to know” what good music was. I look forward to hearing your interview with Shirley Jones.

What a marvelous age in which we live that the best of the early and mid 20th Century music is so readily available, and what a wonderful format in which you package the music and programming.

I was particularly drawn to your station when I learned that Susan McCray was going to do the first interview with my boyhood music hero, Johnny Mann, of Johnny Mann Singers fame. I guess it was 1967 that I first heard the JMSingers broadcast on WCOV radio in Montgomery, AL, and I was hooked to this day! First, Johnny had the ability to select the pop tunes that were truly popular and enduring. When he applied his unparalleled talents in vocal arranging and tasteful accompaniment, you simply could not resist enjoying that effervescent, clean and heart-stimulating music of the 60's (or 20's through the 70's). Second, Johnny had what seemed to be a captivating, warm, friendly personality...the kind of guy that everybody would just love to get to know personally. As I learned subsequently, that is exactly the person that Johnny Mann is. He really IS a great American Patriot, a Christian Gentleman, and just a friendly human being!

So when I heard Susan's first interview with Mr. Mann, it was like sitting with both of them in my living room enjoying a personal conversation. Susan's general outline for an interview touches on the introductory questions that anyone might ask in an initial meeting with a celebrity. She also has the instinct to probe the more personal areas of the stars' lives and bring out so many interesting facts that the listeners would all like to ask...if we had the opportunity.

Later I learned that Susan was to do a follow up interview with JM...and THAT was exciting. She seemed to turn the remainder of the unturned stones and flesh out the rest of Mr. Mann's great career and personality.

Now, if TWO interviews with Johnny Mann were not enough, She then tracked down perhaps the most gifted men's chorus director still working in America today, Jim Clancy, director of Vocal Majority in Dallas, Texas. I could go on and on about Mr. Clancy and his world-champion chorus...as they are indeed the best ever! Susan, once again took the opportunity to record such a personable interview with Jim C. It was evident through the interview WHY Jim is able to pull such marvelous music from the men in Dallas. It would be impossible NOT to give your best under his direction. He is blessed with the gifts that create joy, celebration and warm humanity with his fellow man. There are few of Jim's caliber.

These were the two interviews I had the most personal interest in, but ALL of her interviews are precious jewels of music history from the greatest era of popular music in history. The music is so very tuneful, nicely harmonized, mostly uplifting, or nostalgic and expresses the emotion of two or three generations of great Americans. Susan's interviews MUST be preserved for posterity. In a few short years these recordings will be irreplaceable treasures. I look forward to enjoying more interviews through your archives.

Perhaps you have picked up on my enthusiasm for your work, for Susan's interviews and for your efforts to entertain yet another generation of music audience with the great tunes of our generation. A worthy effort indeed. Thank you so very much.

Please allow me to add my personal admiration for and congratulations to Ms. Linn Carpenter for her virtually flawless guest hosting performance on the September 22 and 29th Perfectly Frank programs on KSAV.

Linn's obvious enthusiasm for the classic singer virtually jumped right out of my computer. In the past, I have not always been the biggest fan of Mr. Sinatra other than with specific classic songs. But Ms. Carpenter has changed all of that and makes me want to seek out more.

There are so many to choose from. I did not envy her task of picking out only ten.
Is there any chance that Linn might return one day in the future to add another ten that needed to be left out?

I enjoyed the program immensely. My only complaint is of a technical nature. During most of the program, especially part II, many of Linn's prerecorded comments seem to have started a few words in. Quite a few were lost it seems. That really is a pity since she added so much to the program. Perhaps it can be rerun the right way at some point to rectify this.

Nevertheless, although all of the recent co hosts have been good, this particular show was outstanding.
Let's face it. Anybody can pick out and play songs on the radio or over the internet, but it takes a special person to infuse enough enthusiasm in a program to make a person want to come back.

Now I am hooked and will be listening in the future Hopefully Mr. Sinatra and Ms. Carpenter will appear together again on KSAV. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I have been a long time listener of Susan McCray's show. I love her interviews with celebrities and am thrilled that the shows are now available as podcasts. Her tribute to Walter Cronkite was fantastic! What made it so special was that Susan took the time to not only recognize Walter Cronkite the newsman, but Walter Cronkite the man.

Mr. Cronkite himself once said, "I can't imagine a person becoming a success who doesn't give this game of life everything he's got." Susan's tribute allowed us to really get to know this wonderful man and his zest for life, both on the air and off..."And that's the way it is."

SUBJECT: WOW! WOW! WOW!!!

I listened to the first Talking Zone radio show tonight. It was great to hear my name and e-mail read on the show by Linn. After that show I listened to three others in the KSAV archives. You guys are great! Why aren't you doing this on a major radio station? I can't believe that four people who sound so professional are not on a major radio station.

I loved the discussion about Perchance to Dream. Linn did a superb job, but I also have to give a standing ovation to Kitty for her talk about Judgement Night. She's so cool and relaxed. Love her demeanor on the radio. Linn told me she's being doing this for years and it shows.

Bobbynear and Ken were also great. Bobbynear is a total pro at this and he and Ken played well against each other. It was almost like the Odd Couple. Remember, Felix and Oscar?

I want to hear more and love the shows. I don't like to call into radio shows because Im not comfortable doing that but I will send e-mails if that is okay for any of your future shows.

The necessary ingredients are there to constantly attract new listeners, week after week, each time you provide the downbeat with your opening signature, and offer such an outstanding treasure trove of wonderful music from the past and present with thoughtful commentary and an all inclusive sensitivity that welcomes everyone and, "says it" with content, substance ,continuity and graciousness.

who alerted me to your site. Boy did I ever enjoy the music......I will be a regular listener. Thank God for the big band music that we are all trying to keep alive. I sing with a big band here in Roseville, California. We have most of the Glen Miller arrangements..as well as the other great bands. Les Brown, Harry James, etc. Most of our venues are concerts in the park and big band dances.

I was a terrific fan of your father's.... and still have a lot of the old recordings.
I am a friend of Beryl Davis who sang for a while with the Miller band. Beryl is old now..but still kicking..she has a loss of memory for most things, but still remembers lyrics to all the songs.

Thanks for a great site..good luck...I'll keep listening.

WoW, What a wonderful interview. Thank you. I read about you from Ms. Carr's website, so I was curious.
You seemed so very natural, as if you were sitting , having coffee in the kitchen, I really enjoyed the 30 min. and am anxious for next Tues.
I first saw Ms. Carr in 1972, in Nyack N.Y. for the very first time. She came down the isle and on to the stage and I knew she was just singing to me....What a voice!
She seemed so relaxed in telling you her personal story. were you friends before the interview?
